Welcome to the NFV-ITI portal

NFV-ITI, Network Functions Virtualisation – Interoperability Testing Initiative, was initiated in December 2016 to promote NFV interoperability between different NFV vendors’ elements.

NFV-ITI promotes competition by:

committing to Parties to offer Interoperability Testing and Interoperability Support, relating to their respective NFV Elements, in specific customer situations where the Parties are suppliers of such NFV Elements and where interoperability is required;

promoting interoperability between different NFV Elements by producing and recommending Generic Interoperability Testing Principles including interoperability test cases, test criteria, processes, methods, guidelines, templates, and testing tools, and will also apply best practices from all existing interoperability testing activities in the industry.

The objective of NFV-ITI is to enable optimization of overall NFV Elements related integration costs and enabling shorter time-to-market for NFV Elements. The general guiding principles for the NFV-ITI are openness, fairness, reasonableness and non-discriminatory treatment.

The NFV-ITI portal is used to communicate the NFV-ITI initiative and intent, to provide information about the NFV-ITI principles, and to share Generic Interoperability Testing Principles with the industry.

About NFV-ITI

What is NFV-ITI?

NFV-ITI, Network Functions Virtualisation – Interoperability Testing Initiative, was was initiated in December 2016 to promote NFV interoperability between different NFV vendors’ elements.

NFV brings with it new paradigms for implementing network elements, new interfaces/APIs to integrate over, and a new functional domain (MANO) to consider for interoperability.

With “NFV Elements" we mean NFV solutions based on the NFV architectural building blocks defined by the ETSI ISG NFV specifications.

NFV-ITI is managed by a Review Committee, which controls a number of Work Groups focusing on test scope and procedures to ensure interoperability between NFV Elements from separate NFV vendors. Basis for the Work Group is ETSI Specification for NFV Interoperability. Other supporting sources to develop test cases for verification of interoperability are OpenStack, OPNFV and other open Cloud/NFV initiatives as well as baseline from projects.

NFV-ITI is an industry effort to help communication service providers to address interoperability testing related challenges between vendors of NFV Elements for specific customer situations, with the intention to promote competition and create industry alignments on generic principles for NFV interoperability testing and support.

NFV-ITI complements existing NFV interoperability testing initiatives such as OPNFV, NVIOT and NIA by focus on creating common principles and frameworks for interoperability testing for NFV commercial deployments in specific customer situations.

NFV-ITI was initiated by Cisco, Ericsson, Huawei, and Nokia who welcome all other NFV vendors to join this initiative. Since the start, additional NFV vendors have joined NFV-ITI and several more have expressed their interest in the initiative. If your company is interested in joining NFV-ITI, you can contact us here.

    NFV-ITI has released an approved version of Vi-Vnfm Interoperability Test Catalogue which is now available in the Participant area for all member companies. It is an extensive test description for the Vi-Vnfm interface for Openstack (Mitaka) NFV interoperability projects. Just to show the content we publish also a test case listing. NFV-ITI efforts now continue with the Or-Vnfm interface.

Generic Interoperability
Testing Principles

Generic Interoperability Testing Principles include recommendations for interoperability test cases, interoperability test criteria, interoperability test project processes, interoperability test methods, and interoperability test tools, to enhance interoperability testing between NFV vendors’ NFV Elements.
